Hi everyone! I’m Ashley Cavell and I am so excited to be participating in the Bike the US for MS: 2011 Pacific Coast bike tour in support of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research! I look forward to helping as many people affected by MS as possible and can’t wait to see all of the beautiful sights along the way! Twice, my brother (Mason) has pedaled across the country for this great cause and I’m honored that he asked me to be a part of this adventure. I’ve been practicing as an occupational therapist since 2006 and work for a hospital in Denver, Colorado. I’m grateful to have this opportunity to support research that may someday directly affect some of patients I treat in occupational therapy. So even if Mason and Chris lead us down a steep hill in the wrong direction a time or two, I’ll know in my heart and head (and legs) that every mile we pedal and dollar we raise will help someone with MS.
Having this opportunity to help support those who have MS makes me very happy. I have known Don Fraser (Director- Bike the US for MS) nearly all my life and know his mother, Nina, as well. I’m riding for her and all those who suffer with this difficult and terrible disease. I get great satisfaction from helping people; that is what I do, or at least hope to do, every day at work. So raising money and riding for a cure for MS and getting to be part of the great organization that Don and Mason have worked so hard to build, is gratifying and extremely exciting for me.
Also, helping others through biking is perfect for me because being active is part of who I am. Biking is a relatively new activity for me, as running, soccer, and swimming kept me occupied while growing up. Last summer I trained for and participated in a triathlon in Boulder, Co., so other than commuting around Denver, that’s about it for my cycling experience. Now I need to start training to be ready for the Bike the US for MS ride in just a few months. You can help by donating to my fundraising goal of $2,466 to help fund projects for individuals with MS and find the cure!
Thank you for your support!
