About Kali Savoca
I’m 23 years old and I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I’m currently in my fourth year of pharmacy school at the University of Cincinnati (GO BEARCATS!), and I rode the TransAm route with Bike the US for MS in 2015! Unfortunately I couldn't do another full route this summer, but I'm so excited to get to spend a couple days & a couple hundred miles with the Northern Tier as they make their way into my home state!
What is MS?
MS is an awful, unpredictable disease that affects both the mind and body. Itdamages the central nervous system and therefore can cause severe issues with mobility, memory/cognitive functioning, vision, and so much else. Often, it severely impacts the quality of life for those who have it. There is so much that is still unknown about what causes/worsens MS, and treatment options are somewhat limited as a result. However, there’s amazing progress being made all the time through research and awareness efforts! If you’d like to learn more, please consider checking out the "why we ride" tab or even the National MS Society’s website:
What is Bike the US for MS?
You know that scene in Forrest Gump where he runs across the country, "for no particular reason?" Picture that, but add in two wheels, a crazy-awesome team of cyclists, and a very particular reason--to help in the fight to #endMS!From May-August 2016, the Northern Tier team will be biking from Bar Harbor, Maine to Seatlle, Washington to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. They will also be stopping along the way to complete service projects for people living with MS!
Why I Ride:
I am lucky enough to have an amazing, hilarious, and loving dad in my life that is always one of my biggest supporters. Anyone who knows him knows that he is such a special guy! Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005 and he has faced so many struggles since. For all that he has done for me over the years, I really wanted to do something for him, and to help in the fight to beat MS for good. This organization is incredible, and I am so lucky to have even a few days to ride with them again!
